Lester brings the hurt on Yankees

Today, two days after their "boss" Hank Steinbrenner complained about the team lacking offense, and a day after producing 18 runs to answer his complaints, the Yankees were shut down and shut out by Jon Lester. Lester struck out 8 and pitched the second complete game of his career, the first being his no-hitter earlier this year. He allowed only 5 hits and got away from many jams, seeming to always have a double play or a much needed strikeout up his sleeve. The Red Sox also came to play offense, scoring 2 runs in the first two innings and finishing the night with 7 in the 7-0 victory. This is exactly what the Sox needed. Last night their bullpen was beaten up by Tampa, and Lester gave them a day off. Plus the win comes in to break a 5 game losing streak. And there's not much better than beating up your rivals. Tampa Bay did not play today, so Boston is now 3 back with the Yankees sitting 8 games behind pace.

Furcal on Disabled List Longer

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal had been on the Disabled List since May 6 with back problems. He was scheduled to return to the lineup at around the All-Star Break.

Now, expect Furcal to be on the Disabled List for at least eight more weeks. He tried to make a comeback by playing in a AAA game last week, but soreness in his back will preclude him from playing for a while to come.

Furcal has played just 32 games this season. He is currently batting .366 with five home runs, 16 RBI and 34 runs scored.

Sonics Will Move to Oklahoma City

After a 2-Year trial with the Hornets, the Ford Center in Oklahoma City will be securing an NBA team. The Seattle SuperSonics are on the move to Oklahoma City, after reaching an agreement to buy out their lease in the Key Arena. As part of the deal, the team will need to change its Name, Logo, and Uniform. Possible replacement names include the Thunder and Barons. If it is chosen as the Thunder (which is likely), look for Kevin Durant to be wearing Red, White, and Blue come next season. Seattle has been promised a future NBA team, yet nothing will be able to replace the city's beloved Sonics. The Sonics won the 1979 NBA Finals, while Gary Payton was the franchise's all-time leading scorer. Ray Allen scored the most points in a game in the team's history, with 54 in 2007. Many fans are outraged, but unfortunately must accept the fact that the Seattle SuperSonics are no more.

Marc-Andre Fleury in Goal for Penguins Next Season

The oscillating roller coaster ride continues for the Pittsburgh Penguins as goalie Marc-Andre Fleury signed a seven-year, $35 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 23-year old from Sorel, Quebec, Canada was the goalie for the Penguins in the playoffs as his stellar goaltending propelled the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals. During the regular season, Fleury acquired a GAA of 2.33 and a save % of 0.921. His game improved in the playoffs as he allowed 1.97 goals per game, saving 93.3% of all shots faced.

In addition, the Penguins have added Miroslav Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko from the New York Islanders. Both signed one-year contracts with Satan earning $3.5 million and Fedotenko earning $2.5 million.

Unfortunately for the Pens, they have lost Georges Laraque as he signed a three-year $4.5 million contract with his hometown team: the Montreal Canadiens. The 31-year old Right Winger scored four goals and nine assists in 71 regular season games for the Penguins last year to go along with his one goal and two assists in 15 playoff games.

Joseph to Start Against Ti-Cats in Week 2, but Expect Bishop to Play

With two excellent quarterbacks to choose from, Toronto Argonauts head coach Rich Stubler will elect to once again start former Roughrider QB Kerry Joseph in today's matchup against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. However, do not be surprised if you see Michael Bishop taking a few snaps during the game. Both quarterbacks got some playing time against the Blue Bombers last week; although the Argos won 23 to 16, neither quarterback had a very impressive game that day.

Last week, Joseph completed 9 of 17 passes for 73 yards, while Bishop completed 6 of 14 passes, of which one ended up in the Bombers' goal area, for 111 yards. Joseph rushed for three yards on two carries while Bishop rushed for 27 yards on two carries.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts will play later today at 7 PM EST on TSN.

Other Week 2 matchups:

Calgary Stampeders at Edmonton Eskimos (today at 10 PM EST)
Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Montreal Alouettes (tomorrow at 7 PM EST)
Saskatchewan Roughriders at BC Lions (tomorrow at 10 PM EST)
