List of Possible Names for Mets Manager

Well ever since Willie Randolph has been fired, I've been hearing more and more rumors on his replacement for next season. Obviously, Jerry Manuel has the job right now, and could very likely be offered it next season as well. However, I've been hearing tons of high qualitly names for the coaching vacancy. I will put them in order of how likely I feel it is they will be selected:

1. Lee Mazzilli-Think about it. It makes since, Mazzilli played for the Mets, and expressed interest in the job prior to the Mets hiring Randolph. He is SNY's lead studio analyst, and has a great relationship with Mets GM Omar Minaya. Although his term as the Orioles manager was short, he is a coaching son of Joe Torre, something all New Yorkers like.

2. Leo Mazzone-Mazzone is a pure National League guy. He spent 27 years in the Braves organization, a majority of time as their pitching coach. The Mets pitching is in dire need of guidance, and he could most definitely help out here. Players love him, and he knows an exceptional amount about the game.

3. Bobby Valentine-You heard it right. Bobby Valentine could be making a return to the Mets. With Steve Phillips no longer the GM, his relationship with the front office can be restored. Valentine led the Mets to the 2000 World Series, and was well liked for the most part by the fans. Could it happen? Sure. Is it likely? Not at all.

10 Reasons to (Still) Watch Golf

10. To hear the collective sighs of relief from all the players with a lead on the back 9
9. The Ryder Cub
8. The PGA Championship
7. The British Open
6. To watch Sergio choke even without Tiger on his back
5. To watch Tony Romo in the offseason
4. To see if Phil Mickelson can win a major without the threat of Woods (like he did when Tiger changed his swing and was temporarily awful)
3. To see if Rocco Mediate can keep up his great play and win a major
2. To witness the emergence of Geoff Ogilvy (I say he wins one of the last two majors of the year)
1. John Daly. Enough Said.

If Contender Calls, Hossa Could Follow

Pittsburgh Penguins RW Marian Hossa has claimed that he would rather get paid little and play for a contender than make big bucks. Obviously, the Penguins have established themselves as a quality team, but it appears they are not completely interested in bringing back the unrestricted free agent. Some teams whom appeared to be interested include the Montreal Canadians, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, amongst a few others. Hossa wants to ensure a Cup in his future, so he will be careful with who he decides to sign with.

Breaking News: Tiger Woods to Miss Rest of Season

After winning the 108th U.S. Open, Tiger Woods will not play the rest of the season, claiming he will have knee surgery to further fix his ailing knee. Tiger has won 14 Majors, making him second all-time in that category. He defeated underdog Rocco Mediate in 19 holes on Monday to win the U.S. Open. Tiger was leading the FedEx Cup Standings, but his absence will likely mean he will fall from this spot.

Celtics Win 17th NBA Title in Franchise History

Domination. This was the word of the day. It was also the word of the season. The Boston Celtics won the NBA Title last night, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 6 of the NBA Finals by an unbelievable score of 131-92. Paul Pierce was named the NBA Finals MVP, scoring 17 points and 10 assists in Game 6. His performance alone must not be the only one noticed.

The Celtics thrived with the help of two newly acquired players, should I say All-Stars. Kevin Garnett demolished the Eastern Conference in post-points and rebounds, flexing his undeniable skill of team leadership. Boston also received guard Ray Allen in a trade with the SuperSonics. Allen displayed his knowledge of the game, as well as putting up incredible performences of physical ability. It was not just the "Boston Three Party" (Thanks ESPN) however, as the whole bench and other starters contributed greatly. Rajon Rondo, who before this season was a nobody, turned into one of the league's biggest stars. After a premature exit from Jersey, Eddie House appeared on the scene, knocking down threes left and right. Add in the help of Kendrick Perkins, Leon Powe (who is now the David Tyree of Boston), and this team could not go wrong.

In short, despite my personal disliking of the team, the Celtics deserved this title. They beat some of the toughest teams in the league en-route to the best record, Eastern Conference Title, and ultimately their goal. As the players filed into the lockerroom, reporters could hear Paul Pierce scream one thing after embracing with legend Bill Russel. "Duckboat!"
