Breaking News: Dick Bavetta Investigated in Donaghy Scandal

According to former NBA referee Hue Hollins, federal agents questioned him about the activites of NBA Referee Veteran Dick Bavetta. Earlier in the week, former ref Tim Donaghy claimed that referees fixed a 2002 playoff series, presumably the Lakers-Kings Western Conference Finals. This series was worked by Bavetta. According to Hollins, he was asked if Bavetta, "Favored the Home Team." Hollins said he rarely worked with Bavetta, thus not being able to provide an answer.

On a personal note, when I first heard about these accusations from Donaghy, the first person I thought of was Dick Bavetta. I hoped it would not involve his name, as with decades of work in professional basketball, is one of the most famous officiators in sports. If more comes out about this, we will be sure to be right on top of it.

Breaking News: Tampa Bay Lightning Expected to Name ESPN Analyst Head Coach

ESPN's E.J. Hradek suggested to ESPNEWS' Michelle Bonner today that fellow analyst Barry Melrose will be named the Tampa Bay Lightning head coach once the sale of the franchise is complete. Neither side has yet to confirm anything yet, but signs have been pointing towards this for a while now. Melrose coached the Los Angeles Kings from 1992-1995, so he does appear to be suit for the job.
