Joba Makes His First Start

Yankees highly-praised P Joba Chamberlain made his first ML start today, going 2 1/3 innings with 62 pitches, 1 H, 3 K's, and 4 BB, something the Yankees highly wanted to avoid. Joba quickly got into a jam, with the bases loaded in the first inning and only 1 out. He would strikeout the remaining two batters, but not without a run having had come in earlier in the inning. Chamberlain seemed less than thrilled, as his early departure forced the Yankees to waste the bullpen, leading to a 9-3 loss. His ideal goal was to pitch 65-70 pitches over 4 innings, and this evidently did occur. He did not figure in the decision.

Red Sox Place Ortiz on DL

The Red Sox placed DH David Ortiz on the 15-Day Disabled List today, in response to a mild tear in his wrist. It is highly unlikely that this will result in any signings of any free agents (Bonds). It would seem logical however for them to move Jacoby over to left field, Coco to center, and J.D. Drew to right, giving the Red Sox much more speed in the field.

Don't count Ortiz out for the all-star game however, as club officials say he is still optimistc to play in the Summer Classic at Yankee Stadium.

Dwayne Wade to the Bulls?

Yahoo has reported that Miami Heat G Dwayne Wade has been hearing from the front office and other sources that the Heat have considered trading him to the Chicago Bulls for the 1st Overall Pick and more. If this were to stand true, that would leave Miami with the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the draft, likely taking Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley respectively.
Wade was visibly upset with the direction in which the Heat were going last season, so it will be interesting as to how he would react to a trade.
