Both NY Ballparks To Be Torn Down Piece By Piece

I know that most of you who aren't fans of New York Sports won't care, but I felt it was important to pass along to those who do. It has recently been stated by NY Law that both Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium will not be imploded, but rather taken down piece by piece. To confirm other information, there will be NOTHING preserved from either park, with the exception of a few items (seats, plate, etc.) being auctioned off for charity. The demolition of Shea will occur during the Winter. The House That Ruth Built will be taken down during Spring 2009. This means it may be possible to see the process during Opening Day 2009, but nothing has been confirmed.

There had been plans to partially preserve both parks, but financing fell through as well as public support. If you have not been to either of these parks, no matter where you live, I suggest you come over to New York to check them out. If not, you will miss your last chance to view sports history.

Even non-NY fans are sad about the demise of these stadiums. I was fortunate to be able to take my wife and kids to a game at Yankee Stadium last year. I wonder why Shea Stadium is not allowed to be imploded. My first game at Yankee Stadium was in 1969 for Bat Day versus the Seattle Pilots.=!

Yankee stadium will hold the NHL Winter Classic? I didn't know that! Wings vs. Blackhawks in neutral ground: that will be awesome to watch!

Actually boygenius, its Rangers vs. and unidentified opponent, likely the Bruins.
